Finished objects:

Michelle spun two fleeces in the last two weeks. The first was a white Icelandic fleece. She now has 260 yards of 3 ply bulky yarn.

The second was a black llama fleece. She has 312 yards of 2 ply, super soft yarn. The picture made it look much lighter than it is.

Michelle finished three smores that she started back in October.

Erica had to stay home from work with a cold, which was good, because it allowed the front door to be installed! Here is her Finished Object (finished by the door installers not Erica herself)!!!!

Works in Progress:

Michelle is working on a 2D needle felted picture of a lighthouse.

Michelle is working on washing an Icelandic fleece. This is Evan's fleece that belongs to Thing 2. She wants me to spin and knit it for her. We'll get the drum carder soon to prepare the fiber.

Michelle is also using up some spring Icelandic fleeces to make dryer balls. She tried to get a picture that shows the break well.  In this picture, the cut end is on the left with the tips on the right. There is a pale line close to her finger that is the break line. This is what makes it unsuitable for yarn. The fiber can be pulled apart along that line, but it is still good for felting.

Erica has been working on her tweed yarn for her 51 Yarns study. She carded together some SW Targhee (brown semisolid) and some green silk! She spun the carded fiber all to one bobbin.

Erica is still working on her Wool N Spinning Breed and Colour Study. Below are her Organic Polwarth singles. The final photo includes both bobbins of singles, next to an original combed top in the same colourway. Photos top to bottom are Graffiti, Graffiti Interrupted, and singles and the braid next to each other.

Here is the sock for TJ in progress, this is being knit cuff down in a Glitz sock base on Signature Needle Arts Needles.

Episode 8: Spinningh Progress and So Much More!

Michelle's FOs Icelandic fleece from a black, gray, unspotted ram named Louie. It is 2 ply and bulky weight. Two finished needle felted pictures. The first is two gnome scenes from a tutorial by Living Felt. And the zentangle dragon I mentioned in the show.  Random fibers for felting before carding: and after: In their lumpy, bumpy form, they aren't as easy to wrap into bases as batts or roving. Here are a couple gnome bases ready to be covered after wrapping a chenille stem from the batt. It might be fun to leave some multicolored.  Erica's WIP Erica is trying a new procedure for spinning. Rather than spinning singles and plying right away, she is spinning up singles until she hits a low energy point or runs out of bobbins. Here is a slew of some singles she has spun up, most of these singles are from her advent calendar.  The advent calendar has been quite fun and came at a good time in this experiment. Since there are ...

Episode 9: Holiday Speed

Finished Objects Erica has a mostly finished and a totally finished object she shares on this episode. Erica plied one of the advent calendar yarns over the holiday break. While travelling in Helsinki, Erica twisted the fringe on her handspun scarf and wet finished it when she returned home. This scarf contains many of her color management study. Michelle finished separating and carding a Jacob fleece. She didn't think it would be that difficult to separate, but it turns out that the divide between the white and brown isn't distinct. She ended up with three colors, but for now is planning to spin the brown and white separately and then ply them to get a barber pole yarn. Works in Progress Erica is has made fairly good progress on both socks. Though the socks for TJ had one heel that ended up with twice as many stitches as the other. She is going to try doubling the decreases on the bigger heel and see how that goes. These socks are being knit from Gynx ...
